Bar Stool Sports founder Dave Portnoy from Swampscott certainly loves a good slice.
Since 2013, Portnoy has been reviewing pizzas as part of his famous online video series: One Bite Pizza Reviews .
Portnoy rates a pizza shop according to his personal criteria: the vibes of the store owners and the attitude of the customers eating there, the ambience and atmosphere of the place, and arguably the most important part: the quality of the pie.
Lower ratings on Portnoy's scale tend to be around the 6's and the low 7's. In 2024, the best pizza places Portnoy reviewed in Massachusetts Only got a 8.1 or higher from the Barstool head.
From the lowest rating to the highest, here are the three pizza restaurants Portnoy went to during his early July stay in Massachusetts in 2025.
Aurora's Pizzeria - Chicopee, Mass.
Portnoy went to Aurora's Pizzeria , located at 1720 Westover Road , while it was very sunny and hot outside.
The review was interrupted by an enthusiastic fan who took a selfie with Portnoy, who then continued the review, saying that the pizza was a bit on the soft side, which is not usually to his liking.
"I'm in a good mood," Portnoy said, giving the place a 7.1.
Bella House − Hampden, Mass.
The Barstool president went to Bella House at 546 Main St. during the Massachusetts trip.
At the traditional Italian restaurant, Portnoy got the New York-style pizza to review.
"Good, good crisp," Portnoy said, taking multiple bites out of his first slice.
The prolific pizza reviewer gave Casa Bella a 7.7, saying that it is one of the better places he's been to in Western Massachusetts.
Blue Square Pizza - Hopkinton, Mass.
Blue Square Pizza , located at 30 Main St. , got the best rating out of all the pizza places that Portnoy went to during his Commonwealth trip. It's also the only pizza place that gave Portnoy three different pizzas to review.
They have all sorts of styles," the Barstool head said. "They have Detroit style, New York style, Chicago style.
Portnoy gave the Detroit-style pizza, a rectangular pan pizza with sauce layered on top, a 7.7, which he commented was very high for a Detroit-style pizza, given that it's not his preferred type of pizza.
That's a sexy-looking slice," Portnoy said about the New York-style pizza. "This pizza place is outstanding.
After several bites, Portnoy gave Blue Square's New York-style pizza a 7.9, adding that it would have been an 8.1, had it been a different day.
The Swampscott-born pizza reviewer said that the Chicago-style pizza, which was not deep dish but instead the traditional Chicago pizza, which is thin, crispy, and cut into tiny squares, was also very good.
"This is a better Chicago than they do in Chicago," Portnoy said, giving Blue Square's Chicago-style pizza an 8.1.
