Brett Favre to another HOF-caliber QB in Aaron Rodgers, maintaining a high level of play at the position for over two decades. Even as other teams struggled to find consistent quarterback play, Green Bay has consistently developed or acquired top-tier talent at the position. This ability to sustain excellence at quarterback through the draft and development sets the Packers apart from nearly every other franchise in the league. Brett Favre to another future HOF'er in Aaron Rodgers .
The team’s current quarterback, Jordan Love , is not looking entirely shabby either, and in a few more years, fans will be in a better position to judge if he will be the third consecutive Packers quarterback to earn a place in Canton , Ohio, once he retires.
The Packers drafted Rodgers in the 2005 NFL Draft with the 24th overall pick. He was not expected to slide that low, considering his projection as a top pick, but the Packers made the smartest decision by choosing Rodgers, even though they had a legend in Brett Favre at quarterback. The California-native entered a hostile situation as Favre was not open to mentoring his successor.
Despite this, Rodgers went on to become elite. After 20 seasons as a pro, Rodgers is set to embark on his possible final season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. As his career comes to an end, FS1 analyst C Terry Cowherd pointed out the bizarre but amazing similarities between Rodgers' and Favre's careers.
Aaron Rodgers and Favre had identical careers... It's crazy. So they both enter Green Bay as backups, then eventually, due to an injury and one due to Favre leaving, they get the starting job, and immediately, you see A+ talent.
Colin Cowherd pointed out on The Herd.
The similarities are eerie at the very least. Both were selected by the Packers to serve as backups, and then, when their opportunity to play finally came, both excelled. In his first game as a starter, Favre led the Packers to a clutch victory in the final minutes of the game. From that moment on, fans fully embraced him.
Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre each played 20 seasons in the NFL.
Rodgers became a starter in 2008, and in his first year, led the team to a 6-10 overall record. The team finished third in the NFC North, and ranking behind them were the 0-16 Detroit Lions.
While the overall record was far from what the Packers' fanbase wanted, they were still excited because of what they witnessed from the young quarterback. Rodgers held his own, played well, and finished the year with 4,000+ passing yards and 28 touchdowns.
Favre led the Packers to a Super Bowl in 1997. In his 16 seasons at Green Bay, he took the team to the postseason multiple times, winning seven division titles, and played in four NFC Championship games, but his record in the Super Bowl was 1-1.

Rodgers spent 15 years as the starting quarterback for the Packers. During this time, he led the team to one Super Bowl, won the game, and received the Super Bowl MVP Award for his performance. The quarterback has a 12-10 record in the postseason with the Packers. Again, multiple playoff appearances, but only one successful championship season, just like his predecessor.
But wait, there's more. Rodgers and Favre played brilliantly during the regular season. Watching them play was the equivalent of visually devouring a tiramisu; enjoy it to its fullest while it lasts! Favre won three regular-season MVPs during his tenure in Green Bay. Rodgers bested him by winning four, but both won multiple MVP awards, another similar event.
Both have had profoundly impactful decade-and-a-half-long Packer careers. Favre played for sixteen years and Aaron for fifteen, and in their prime, John Madden fell in love with Favre, believing he was the most talented quarterback, while Aaron wasn't accumulating all the trophies that Tom (Brady) was, yet the sentiment was that Aaron was the most talented passer in the league. That's what we thought about Favre.
Cowherd went on to point out other similarities between their careers.
Rodgers’ career is slightly more impressive than Favre’s because he excelled at a time when Tom Brady was in his prime. Brady was the one winning the Super Bowls, making it to the postseason year after year, so it was natural for him to be considered the better quarterback.
However, it is interesting because fans admired Brady's game, but still considered Rodgers to be more talented because of his arm. Even with the GOAT playing, Rodgers did not stay in his shadow; he was respected as one of the best in the league and held his own.
Fast forward to the final years of Favre and Rodgers' careers, and the similarities continue to pile on. Favre left Green Bay in search of greener pastures after his relationship with the front office and upper management soured. One of the reasons the Packers chose to draft Rodgers was that Favre had a habit of leaving the franchise hanging when it came to his future.
The man considered retiring after each season toward the end. If this sounds familiar, it is because Rodgers did the same with the Packers, and that was one of the factors that affected his relationship with the team's front office. Ultimately, Favre's indecisiveness led to him being traded to the New York Jets, where he tried to prove he was still among the elite, but after a 9-7 season, he left the team to play his final two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.
Rodgers’ last few years have been similar. The veteran was shocked ever since the Packers selected Jordan Love in the first round of the draft. He eventually left to play for the New York Jets, following in the path of his predecessor, but hoping for a different outcome. Unfortunately, the Jets experiment failed, after which Rodgers once again considered retiring, before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers for one last dance.
There have not been two other players in the league's history who have shared similar careers like Favre and Rodgers. Once the latter makes it into the Hall of Fame, he will have achieved another milestone that Favre accomplished.
Cowherd said it rightly, Maybe it's the water in Green Bay! because a coincidence of this magnitude is one fans will likely never witness again. Two exceptional athletes with two exceptional careers.
